Jan 24, 2019 PAN Application Form 49B in Fillable PDF. Application for Allotment of TAN (Tax Deduction and Collection Account Number) The forms compiled by Finotax in Excel / Word / fillable PDF format enable you to fill the form on your Laptop / PC before printing of the form.
Earlier we had a lesson on What is a TAN and about its structure. This time let’s learn how to apply for a Tax deduction and collection account number-TAN.There are two modes of applications.Online application and offline application.
Online Application of TAN
- Online or offline, TAN Number shall be applied through Form 49B. Click the below link to get online form 49 B.
You will find two options at the end of the page as shown in the below image.
- Apply for a new TAN
- Apply for New TAN (for DSC users) .This option is for those who having digital signature certificate.
Select the category from the drop-down list
Now click on select button,Now you are in Form No 49BYou have to fill the forms accurately. The AO(Assessing officer) Code is available at your income tax office.or you can simply click on the link provided at the top of the Assessing officer code ( TDS/TCS).
You will be redirected to a page of “AO Code search for TAN” as shown in the image.
Click on the first letter of the city name where you files or intend to files your TDS return. Assume that you are filing return at Mumbai, then click on letter M, The list of city will display.Click on Mumbai,it will populate all AO Code records, select your WARD.Click on submit.This will automatically bring the AO Codes into the FORM 49B as in the below figure.Fill the rest of the form with Name of applicant,Address,Telephone number,email address, Nationality.
Also there are spaces for providing PAN Number, Any existing TAN Number, Tax collection account number these are not mandatory fields .Provide if already having.
Here is the filled form after selecting payment option Credit card/Debit card. You can go for online banking also if you wish to make payment through online.Click on Submit button,any mistakes in the given data, the form will return you with some errors marked in red color text.Correct those errors and re-submit it. If the system found everything in order then it will show you another confirmation screen with all given data as shown below.Read the form carefully once again,Any mistake found,click on edit and correct it.If everything is OK,Enter the verification code provided at the end of the screen and click on confirm button. This will submit the form to the NSDL and you will get a terms and conditions page in which you will find the Transaction Number ,Transaction Type, Amount Payment Mode, Some notes about Issue of TAN and Term s and conditions.
Write the Transaction Number in a safe place.This will help you in tracking the status of application in case you loss the connectivity at any time from this screen onward.Click on Agree button, will take you to the CITI BANK payment gateway screen.After making payment, the system will display an ‘Acknowledgment for TAN Application‘The acknowledgement number is a 14 Digit unique number.This acknowledgement number shall be quoted for tracking the status of your TAN application at https://tin.tin.nsdl.com/pantan/StatusTrack.html.
Payment options and Fee for TAN
The Fee for TAN Application is Rs 55 + 15% Service tax = 63 ( Sixty three rupees) Non refundable in any case.The payment can be made through following ways.
- Demand Draft payable at Mumbai.
- Cheque
- Credit card/Debit card
- Net banking – List of available banks.
The cheques demand draft shall be in favor of NSDL – TIN Payable at Mumbai.
In case of Local Cheque,Cheques can be drawn on any bank and deposited in HDFC Banks any where in India except Dahej. Don’t forget to write TANNSDL on the deposit slip.
Name of the applicant and acknowledgment number should be mentioned on the back of the Demand draft or cheque.
- Payment can be made through debit card/credit card will be charged 5 + 15 % service tax as a payment gateway charge.
- Payment made through net banking will be charged 4+15% service tax as above.
Online payment facility like Credit card,Debit card and net banking is not available for certain categories like Central Government / State Government and Statutory / Autonomous Bodies.
Whose credit card ,debit card and net banking can be used for payment.

Seal and Signature
Take a Printout of the Acknowledge FOR TAN Application and put the signature of the applicant in black ink only in the box provided at the right hand bottom of the application form. Make sure that the signature or Left thump impression is not touching the border of the box.If the applicant is other than individual the seal of authorized signature affixed in the box.
Send the acknowledgement along with docs to the NSDL
The acknowledgement shall be send to the following NSDL address along with the Demand draft/Cheque if chosen for payment through cheque/DD,proof of address and Identity shall be send to NSDL TAN application division.

Make sure that on the envelope, superscribed “APPLICATION FOR TAN – Acknowledgment Number. For example APPLICATION TAN – 88301020000244
The Demand draft if any and application shall reach NSDL within 15 days of application. Application will process only after the realization of the cheque of DD.
Allotment of TAN and dispatch.
The Application with payment of Credit Card/Debit Card shall be forwarded to the Income tax department.They will allot the TAN after getting duly signed acknowledgement. The TAN allotment letter will be dispatched to the given address in the application form only after receiving acknowledgement.
Offline TAN Application
Approach any of the nearest TIN Facilitation centers. Get an application form.You can download Form 49 B through this link.
Submit the Form along with a fee of Rs 63/-and Proof of Identity and adress to the TIN FC.
They will issue you a 14 digit acknowledgment number. You can track the status of your application with it. The TAN Allotment letter will be send to you the given address in the Form 49B.
